What happens when a family of accountants discovers philosophy through one of their own?
This video tells the story of how Grecia decided to study philosophy: a choice that began with her father’s early lessons in questioning and reflection, even within a home where numbers were the everyday language. Over time, what started as curiosity grew into a shared passion between Grecia and her family, reshaping the way they all understood thinking, learning, and purpose.
Now, more than a decade later, Grecia is a philosopher with plenty of work as she is the founder of (Un)Learning Filosofía, a public philosophy initiative dedicated to taking philosophy outside the classroom and making it more accessible, inclusive, and transformative.
The video, produced at the request of Western Michigan University’s Department of Philosophy, aims to ease the concerns of families who may feel uncertain about what a career in philosophy can offer. Through Grecia’s journey, her parents show that supporting a path rooted in reflection and questioning can open doors far beyond traditional expectations, and that philosophy is not only a discipline but also a fruitful career and a way to live and connect meaningfully with others.
✨ Philosophy can transform those who study it and the world(s) they touch.
